ADAD #28: last drawing of February

Another one of my TV drawings, capturing the most important lines in only a minute helps me to make quick decisions and to look intensely.

Normally I would have skipped an image like this, too much going on and too difficult to get it right. But when you do not try, you do not learn. It went better than expected, and maybe next time it will be even better...

Thank you for joining me in the month of drawings. I'll keep going in my sketchbook, but also need to spend more time in my studio painting :).  

ADAD #27: a screenshot

 I have made some drawings while sitting in front of the TV. Sometimes when I am watching a travel or cooking programme you see these screenshots with a nice composition. I put it on pause and make a quick drawing. This is how I made this drawing of an old farmer from France:

ADAD #26: terra pastels

 Made a quick drawing with a pastel pencil in this warm colour. I rubbed on it with my hand to fade out the lines, I like the effect, it reminds me of medieval times.

ADAD #25: An old farmhouse

Today the shape and colour led me to drawing an old farmhouse, with a giant roof , sheltering over a house and a barn. It is often surrounded by a path of grit, so as to soak up the rain from the roof.

 

ADAD #24: Daisy

Starting with a piece of torn paper and some glue, I turned it into a happy daisy flower. I really like the winter season, but when it is all grey and wet... I am longing for some sun and flowers. 

ADAD #23: pears in paint

 Step 1: composition on prepared paper.

Step 2: in with acrylic paint.

Step 3: using a colour pencil to do some finishing touches.

ADAD #22: same pears

The same composition of pears, but then starting on a painted background using markers. And then using the colour pencils to go further.

I like experimenting like this, and I will probably have made some mistakes in dark-light. I miss my art-teacher now... he would have told me.

 

ADAD #21: a pair of pears

 Playing with colour: a drawing of pears. First a set-up in blue, and then adding other colours.

ADAD #20: Snowdrops

The snowdrops are the first to appear, and our garden has quite a lot of them. Really small but lovely. 

ADAD #19: Tulips

It is the time of tulips! Fresh flowers to brighten the day. I do not think I have a favourite colour, it depends on the mood. But this yellow-red combination is a happy one.

ADAD #18: Hello there

 Hello, I drew this cowboy girl out of a blob of paint. I started with the hat, and used a permanent marker. I like the bold lines, and these markers are unforgiving, the line should be okay the first time.

ADAD #17: thoughts

 Starting with a bit of paint, as a base for something, it turned into this face and meditation. I have been making a couple of word meditations lately, and it is a nice way to letting creativity flow.

ADAD #16: weaving

Inspired by another weaving structure I made this drawing. Weaving can be done with so many materials. I have only done the simple weaving with wool, but also paper and natural materials are interesting.

ADAD #15: stitches

 On a prepared piece of cardboard I drew the stitches of a sort of weaving, using a white gelly roll-pen. You see a lot of weaving today, and the different type of patterns and styles are interesting.

ADAD #14: Lovely day

 Happy Valentine's day everyone. Let's show some love and care for whoever you meet today. For the drawing of this day I kept going with the earthy tones, making another one:

ADAD #13: Earthy tones

 For today's drawing it is a collage with earthy tones, and a sort of weaving structure. I started by glueing on some pages, then painted it with watercolour, and then used pencils to draw shapes.

And I then used my collection of found items to make it into this picture. I know I am a keeper of things :)

ADAD #12: okay

Okay, so using the same exercise, this one turned out very different. I did not really like the drawing but decided to work on it and place it in a surrounding to see what I could make of it. I still do not like it, but it was good to keep trying...

ADAD #11: a little girl

 Ah, I think this turned out very sweet. I used a watercolour mark as an exitpoint for a drawing. I took one of my pens and Indian ink and drew this character. It is not perfect, but it is a surprise to me. Sometimes you are surprised by what you draw.

ADAD #10: Last letter I think

Well the letter T. Lots of words to think, but I got caught on Tying the knots... so I drew a string with knots. Which is a doodle drawing I do more often :).

In the background you see my desk top of the place where I paint. It is a piece of cardboard used as a protection layer for my desk. Now and then I replace the cardboard, and save the old one.

 

ADAD #9: Apple, apple...

The letter A, filled with apples. I am a happy apple eater, so this was the first word to come to my mind. 

ADAD #8: Another one

The letter B this time, I was thinking about Bricks, so that became the pattern, like a brick wall.. 

ADAD #7: Letters

Then the next letter I drew was the I, and I have no idea why.

 

ADAD #6: Letters

 I have always enjoyed typography, and used to do a bit of calligraphy. So I think I might draw some letters, first starting with a C (don't worry, I am not going to do the entire alphabet):

I filled the C with cherries, or cérises :).

ADAD #5: Elephant

 I once made a painting of elephants, in the style of expressionism. They are great to draw and paint. Somehow I decided to draw an elephant today.

ADAD #4: Echinacea

Another Echinacea drawing, different shapes together on painted cardboard. I think I could do this better in paint. I like the loose style of paintbrushes. 

ADAD #3: flowers

 Today I made a pen drawing of the Echinacea-flowers, I really like those and hope to grow them this year. I do not like the result much, I am not always one for details, and this flower has details. Room for improvement...

ADAD #2: lady portrait

Today something different: a singing lady, this might be an image from The sound of music, I am not sure. I used a brown colourpencil.

 

February: a drawing a day

 In the month of February I try to make a drawing a day, to just try different things. So on the first day I was in the mood for some colour and decided to draw some tomatoes with colourpencils.
