ADAD #27: road to the beach

In June we will probably spend a day at the beach, 

walking through the dunes and seeing the sea before you,

and hearing the birds making sounds.

It will look like this:

Some dots and a Sharpie-pen made this crazy, mad bird...

You see, my drawings are just so different each time.

A very blueish flower, just experimenting with watercolour and pencils...

A winterlandscape, when the reeds are yellow, 

skies are grey and water is almost frozen...

A happy sheep, almost as if he had a colour bath...

Lots of people are longing for spring,

I like the cold of winter,

but I do miss flowers and butterflies...

Typical Dutch picture: using your bicycle for groceries,

it is something I daily do:

Love this blue color pencil I have,

and made a soft sweet portrait with it,

drawn out of imagination.

I like adding hats and scarves to the personality.

ADAD #16: Drawing in black

Same technique, different subject,

keeping lines as minimal and simple as possible.

ADAD #15: Girl with balloon

I tried something different: my Sharpie-pen,

with strong black and white contrast.

ADAD #14: on the swing

I love sitting on a swing, so I can defnitely imagine the joy of this boy.
I used a picture as my reference.

ADAD #13: still-life

I like still-life paintings,

here is my graphical version of one.

Kept the colour tones light.

My drawing lies again on top of a tin can with a painting by Andreas Schelfhout (a Dutch painter from the Romantic period), the painting is in possesion of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

It is a winter scene, which is very appropriate because of the wintery days we are having here in the Netherlands.

ADAD #12: woman with child

With my permanent marker I made this really small drawing,

a sort of classical subject,

here I find that it helps a lot that I am an observer,

then images somehow get stuck in your mind and you can recall posture,

composition and make your own drawing.

ADAD #10: vintage finds

The vintage vases from West-Germany are very popular,

lava-vases, vases with texture.

You can find a lot of them in the Etsy-shops.

Art is about renewal, creativity and speaks to your soul.

ADAD # 8: reminder

Sometimes written sentences are a good reminder,

each time you see them you start thinking about them.

ADAD #7: longing for

Longing for is a sort of bittersweet feeling,

but it adds to loving someone.

Black and red is a combination I do not often use...

but it is all about experimenting.

ADAD #6: towards Valentine...

Making use of brush pens and hand lettering,

and adding details with a permanent pen.

I like it when it is not so neat.

ADAD #5: words and a brush marker

My grandmother introduced me to calligraphy when I was a teenager,

I got her pen to practice.

Since then I have made a lot of cards with words,

and brush markers are very useful for this.

To write words down is a good reminder.

ADAD #4: man in black and blue

This exercise I have tried before, first you paint two random smudges, 

when the paint is dry you look at them again and you try to connect them in a drawing.

Here I first saw the big belly and then the hat.

A drawing a day in 2018: February ADAD #1

Each year in February I make a drawing a day. 

I have done this for several years now and it has brought me a lot. 

It takes me out of my comfortzone and boosts the creativity.

Most of the times there is no theme but I do like to try different materials.

This time I tried my set of 5 brush pens with watercolour (#ecoline #talens).

Starting with three colours and adding a permanent pen this pattern came up:
